About: Maureen Ward

I am a married mother of four children, 3 boys and then a girl. On October 25, 2010 my world crashed around me when my oldest son died in a car accident. He was a teacher who loved his job and his life. He was 24. In Jan of this year, 2011, my youngest son was deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan. On March 26 2011, my mother passed away, five months and one day after my son. It has been a brutal time in our lives and I am struggling daily. I hope to find a way out of the darkness and once again see the glass as half full. I really don't know if I can do it. All I can do is pray and try. On November 30, 2012, I received call from my son who was now out of the Marines, telling me that he had just found his brother (my second born son) sitting in the garage lips were blue and he was unresponsive. He tried CPR for about ten minutes before the police took over for about 10 -15 minutes, finally the EMTS arrived and after quite a while they were able to get a faint heartbeat. He was rushed to the hospital, but we knew it was futile. Once they started "protocol", they couldn't stop it for 24 hours. We sat and watched his body break down and still they wouldn't take him off life support. His friends and family were able to get there to say goodbye at least. One doctor came in and said he had good news, "If we can get his heart to beat on its own, he will be a vegetable for the rest of his life". Needless to say that didn't go over too well with me. My second son died on Dec 1 2012, two years one month and a handful of days after my oldest.
